This page explains the requirements and steps to get your own chocobo in Final Fantasy XIV.
To get your own chocobo, you have to complete the main scenario quest The Company You Keep, which is a level 20 quest. There are three different versions of this quest. The version that you choose will determine which Grand Company you join. Check the Grand Company Guide for more information about choosing a Grand Company.

BEFORE Purchasing a Chocobo Issuance, Complete the Next Main Scenario Quest
You will need to purchase a Chocobo Issuance, but you will get the necessary Seals from the next main scenario quest, so there is no need to do FATEs, guildhests, etc. to earn the necessary seals. The next main scenario quest will depend on which Grand Company you chose:
- If you chose the Immortal Flames: For Coin and Country
- If you chose the Maelstrom: Till Sea Swallows All
- If you chose the Twin Adder: Wood's Will Be Done
Purchase a Chocobo Issuance
After you have completed one of the above main scenario quests, you will have enough Seals to purchase a Chocobo Issuance. You can purchase a Chocobo Issuance from the Quartermaster in your Grand Company headquarters for 200 Seals (in the Materiel tab).
Present the Chocobo Issuance
Go to the chocobokeep in the city where your Grand Company is headquartered. They will be marked on the map during the My Little Chocobo quest. Talk to them and hand over the Chocobo Issuance.
Name Your Chocobo
Check on your chocobo. You will be asked to name your chocobo. The game refers to your chocobo as he/him and your chocobo is likely to be canonically male, but feel free to ignore this and name your chocobo whatever you want. You can rename your chocobo for free at any time by talking to a Chocobokeep in any city and choosing Chocobo Renaming.
Speak with the Chocobokeep
After you name your chocobo, talk to the chocobokeep again and complete the quest to receive your Chocobo Whistle. You must use the Chocobo Whistle to unlock your chocobo as a mount.
