An introductory guide for Island Sanctuary that will walk you through all the steps from building your cabin to reaching Rank 10.

A view of Island Sanctuary in Final Fantasy XIV.

How to Unlock Island Sanctuary

To unlock Island Sanctuary, you must complete the final quest of 6.0 (quest title: "Endwalker"), then speak to the Clueless Crier near the Old Sharlayan Aetheryte (X:11.9 Y:11.0) to begin the quest "Seeking Sanctuary".

How to Travel to Your Island Sanctuary

During the "Seeking Sanctuary" quest, you will go to Lower La Noscea (X:24.9 Y:34.8) to speak to Baldin near the Aetheryte in the Moraby Drydocks. After the cutscene, you can talk to Baldin and choose "travel to my island" whenever you want to travel to your island sanctuary.

The Coziest of Cabins

Speak With Tataru

The first time you arrive on your island, speak to Tataru to proceed. Go to the quest icon on the map and talk to Tataru to complete the quest. There will be a cutscene.

Speak with the Felicitous Furball

When you are ready, talk to the Felicitous Furball and follow it to the clearing, then talk to it again to unlock the Islekeep's Index.

Islekeep's Index

The Islekeep's Index allows you to change your mode, as well as access your Isleventory, Sanctuary Gathering Log, and view the Guide. You can see your sanctuary rank and island EXP, as well as your Seafarer's Cowries and Islander's Cowries. With the Islekeep's Index, you can now use mounts and ride around on your island.

Change to Gather Mode

See the List of Materials and List of Gathering Nodes for more information.

Choose the Mode icon in the Islekeep's Index to switch to Gather mode, then go east to the blue circles on the map. Feel free to use a mount to go there.

When you arrive at the blue circles on the map, if you switched to Gather mode, you will see gathering node icons in the minimap. Interact with any of the sparkles on trees and rocks to gather the requested materials. Keep an eye on the quest objectives to see your progress in gathering the requested materials. Make sure to proceed to the next blue circle on the map if you can't seem to find the right type of materials. The icons in the minimap also give you a clue as to the type of material that the gathering node will yield.

To help you gather the materials for this part, you can click on the ⚙️ to change your minimap settings to only show trees and rocks/mineral deposits.

Click on a sparkling gathering node to see its name. Gather from the following types of nodes to get the required items:

  • Tualong Tree → Island Branch
  • Palm Tree → Island Palm Leaf
  • Smooth White Rock → Island Stone

When you have all of the requested materials, you can use "Isle Return" in your Duty Actions to go back to the Felicitous Furball and continue the quest.

Craft the Islekeep's Stone Hatchet

After you have talked to the Felicitous Furball, the Sanctuary Crafting Log will be unlocked in the Islekeep's Index. Access it and then choose the Craft button beneath the list of materials to craft the Islekeep's Stone Hatchet.

Afterward, speak to the Felicitous Furball to continue. There will be a cutscene.

Gather Materials

Check the quest objective or the logboard to review the required materials. The gathering locations are marked on the map.

To help you gather the materials for this part, you can click on the ⚙️ to change your minimap settings. You will be looking for vegetation, trees, rocks/mineral deposits, and soils, so you might want to enable one at a time as needed.

After you gather all of the required materials, you can use "Isle Return" in your Duty Actions to go back to the Logboard. Check on it and choose "Construct the cozy cabin" to build the cabin, then choose the Construct button to construct it. There will be a cutscene. Afterward, talk to the Felicitous Furball to continue.

Sanctuary Settings

This unlocks the "Entry" tab in the Sanctuary Settings ⚙️ in the Islekeep's Inventory. You can now change who can access your Island Sanctuary.

Manage Hideaway

This also unlocks Manage Hideaway in the Islekeep's Inventory, which shows the current status of your island. If renovations are available, you can use Manage Hideaway to view them and check the list of required materials from anywhere on the island. More options are added to Manage Hideaway as you proceed.

Orchestrion

In your Hideaway, you can access the Orchestrion to change the music that plays in your Hideaway area, near your Cabin. This does not affect the music that plays on the rest of the island.

Enterprising Exporter and Horrendous Hoarder

Also in your Hideaway, you can earn Cowries by exporting raw materials gathered on the island, and you can purchase items with Cowries.

Top Crops

Speak with the Felicitious Furball to proceed to the next stage of island development.

Ask the Produce Producer to Clear the Ridge

Go northeast from the Felicitous Furball, then follow the path counterclockwise to reach the quest icon. Talk to the Produce Producer to proceed. Ask it to clear the ridge, and there will be a cutscene, and the Cropland will be unlocked.

Sow Seeds

Talk to the Produce Producer and you will get 5 bags of Island Pumpkin Seeds. Choose the Mode icon in the Islekeep's Index, and select Sow Mode. Select the empty "Item" box in the Islekeep's Index, and choose the seeds. Then interact with an empty plot to sow the seeds.

Water the Seeds

Choose the Mode icon in the Islekeep's Index, and select Water Mode. Then interact with a cropland plot to water the seeds.

Complete "Top Crops"

Talk to the Produce Producer afterward to complete the "Top Crops" vision.

How to Check on your Crops

If you want to see the status of your crops, talk to the Produce Producer and choose "Review status of crops" to see the Cropland Management window.

How Often to Water your Crops

Crops will dry out if they haven't been watered for 36 hours. Dry crops will not die, but they will stop growing until they are watered again.

Adorable Animals

You can use "Isle Return" in your Duty Actions to go back to your Hideaway. At your Hideaway, talk to the Felicitous Furball to proceed to the next Vision: Adorable Animals.

Ask the Creature Comforter to Build a Pasture

Go northeast from the Felicitous Furball, then follow the path counterclockwise to reach the quest icon. Talk to the Creature Comforter to proceed. Choose "Build a little home for animals" and there will be a cutscene, and the Pasture will be unlocked.

Get Nets

Speak with the Creature Comforter and you will get 3 makeshift nets. You can also make more nets by selecting Sanctuary Crafting Log in the Islekeep's Index and choosing the Restraints category on the left side. More types of restraints will be unlocked as you rank up your island.

Switch to Capture Mode

Before you proceed, choose the Mode icon in the Islekeep's Index and select Capture.

Choose a Net

Before you can capture a wild animal, choose the empty "Item" box in the Islekeep's Index to choose the type of restraint to use. If you do not have any, you can craft some using the Sanctuary Crafting Log.

Capture a Wild Animal

Explore the island to find wild animals. For a full list of animal locations, see Island Sanctuary: Wild Animals. Makeshift Nets can only capture small animals. See below for lists of small animals.

Common Small Animals
  • Apkallu
  • Coblyn
  • Ground Squirrel
  • Lost Lamb
  • Opo-opo
Rare Small Animals
For help finding rare animals, check out the Rare Animal Tracker.

  • Lemur (Rare)
  • Morbol Seedling (Rare)
  • Ornery Karakul (Rare)
  • Star Marmot (Rare)
  • Twinklefleece (Rare)
  • Yellow Coblyn (Rare)

While you are in Capture mode, when you find wild animals, their species name will appear above their heads. Make sure to select the type of net that you want to use, then interact with the wild animal to try to capture it. As mentioned before, some animals can only be captured with larger nets, so try to find small animals for now. You aren't guaranteed to capture the animal, so keep trying until you succeed. If you are in the animal's field of vision when you use the net, the animal may run away, so try to be behind the animal when you use the net.

Speak with the Creature Comforter

Go back to your Hideaway and talk to the Creature Comforter to proceed. You will receive 5 servings of Island Sweetfeed.

Feed Your Animals

Choose the Mode icon in the Islekeep's Index and select Feed, then choose the empty "Item" box to select the type of feed. Then interact with an animal to feed it. Afterward, speak to the Creature Comforter to complete the "Adorable Animals" vision.

How to Check on your Animals

If you want to check on the status of your animals, talk to the Creature Comforter and choose "Review status of animals in the pasture" to view the Pasture Management window. From here, you can change your animals' nicknames, or release them back into the wild. Released animals do not keep their nicknames or their happiness level.

How to Gather from your Animals

Once a day, the animals in your pasture will sparkle. You can switch to Gather mode to gather materials from each animal, such as fur, feathers, and eggs.

How Often to Feed Your Animals

You only need to feed your animals once every 24 hours to maintain their mood. If you don't feed your animals, their mood will go down. This does not harm them, and they won't run away. But if their mood is too low, they won't produce anything for you to gather from them.

How to Interact with your Animals

You can switch your mode to "Pet" and "Beckon" to interact with the animals in your pasture. These do not affect your pets' happiness.

A Workshop of Wonders

Talk to the Felicitous Furball at your Hideaway to proceed to the next vision: "A Workshop of Wonders".

Level the Ground

Go to the quest icon on the map and talk to the Pathological Pathfinder Mk. I. Choose "Cut away this vexatious vegetation", and there will be a cutscene. Afterward, the Site will be ready. This will add a Facility I Logboard and a Facility II Logboard.

Release Minions

The Manage Minions option is now available in the Islekeep's Index. You can assign multiple minions per area. To interact with your minions, you can switch your mode to Free Mode. If you are standing close enough to the minion, some minions may react to certain emotes, such as /pet.

Gather Materials for a Hammer

After you have created the two vacant plots, talk to the Pathological Pathfinder Mk. I to get the recipe for the Islekeep's Stone Hammer. Open the Sanctuary Crafting Log and go to the Tools section, and check the Islekeep's Stone Hammer recipe. If you have the necessary materials, choose Craft. If not, go to the blue circles on the map, switch to Gather mode, and gather the necessary materials.

To help you gather the materials for this part, you can click on the ⚙️ to change your minimap settings. You will be looking for vegetation, trees, and rocks/mineral deposits.

  • Palm Tree → Island Palm Leaf
  • Smooth White Rock → Island Limestone
  • Island Apple Tree → Island Vine
  • Sugarcane → Island Vine
  • Submerged Sand → Island Sand
  • Mound of Dirt → Island Sand

Construct a Workshop

After you gather the required materials, use "Isle Return" in your Duty Actions to go back to your Hideaway, then interact with either of the two Facility Logboards to construct a Workshop I there. (You can move it later if you wish.)

Report to the Pathological Pathfinder

Go to the quest icon and talk to the Pathological Pathfinder to proceed.

Moving Buildings

You can move buildings by checking on the logboard in front of the building that you want to move and selecting "Move facility".

Workshop's Agenda

You can now talk to the Tactful Taskmaster and choose "Review the workshop's agenda" to set agendas for the workshop. When you are first starting Island Sanctuary, you might want to just schedule whatever you have materials for, so you can get Island EXP from workshop earnings as soon as possible. You can check Material Allocation in the Islekeep's Index to find out which materials are needed for your currently scheduled workshop agendas.

Workshop Efficiency Bonus

Whenever you schedule a different item from the same category as the previous item, you get an efficiency bonus, which doubles the output without increasing the material requirements. An example of this is to alternate between Potions and Firesand.

Keep the Workshop Supplied

As mentioned above, make sure to check Material Allocation in the Islekeep's Index to find out which materials you need to gather to ensure that production can proceed as scheduled. "Cycle" is a real-world day and "Season" is a real-world week.

Workshop Presets

You can save a workshop agenda as a preset, allowing you to quickly set the agenda for upcoming cycles.

To get the best earnings, produce items that have high popularity and low supply. Keep in mind that the items that you produce will add to the item's supply, so try not to produce too many of the same item.

Groove

Each item that your workshop produces will add to the "Groove" count in the Workshop window. Groove is reset to 0 at the start of each season (i.e. real-world week). Groove boosts your earnings. If you want to maximize your Groove as early as possible, produce 4-hour items until the Groove count is full. However, this isn't always the optimal strategy.

Rest Days

You are required to schedule two Rest Days each week. This can be changed with the Rest Days button in the Workshop window. It is recommended to set cycle 1 as a rest day to allow you to see the supply and demand for the week, to help you decide what to schedule.

How to Collect your Workshop Earnings

Talk to the Tactful Taskmaster to receive your earnings for the items that your workshop has produced. You will also receive 70 Island EXP per hour, per workshop (only for successful production runs).

The Perfect Paradise

Talk to the Felicitous Furball to begin the next vision: "The Perfect Paradise". After the cutscene, you are free to develop your island as you choose.

Gather Copper Ore, Craft the Basic Mammet-sized Builder's Tools

You can change your hideaway's appearance using Island Prisms. For more information, visit the Island Prisms page.

Build Another Workshop

If you still have a vacant plot for a Facility, build a Workshop there. The first one was ready instantly, but subsequent facilities will take longer to complete. Be sure to check on the logboard whenever a facility is complete, to make sure you earn the Island EXP for it.

Expand the Cropland and Pasture

After you renovate your cabin, you can talk to the Creature Comforter and Produce Producer at the Cropland and Pasture to expand them. Expanding each one requires 1000 Seafarer's Cowries, but does not require materials.

Plant More Plants and Capture More Animals

If you still have room in your pasture or cropland for animals and plants, you may wish to fill them. If you are at Rank 4, you can gather Island Pumpkin Seeds and Island Cabbage Seeds. The more plants and animals you have in your cropland and pasture, the more EXP you can earn by gathering the produce and leavings. Animals will have leavings once a day, and plants are ready to harvest in two days.
