Following your introduction to the First and the Crystarium, you arrange with the Crystal Exarch to seek out Alphinaud.

Requirements

This quest is available if you have completed the quest Travelers of Norvrandt.

Starting the Quest

Talk to the Crystal Exarch in the Ocular in the Crystarium to begin the quest.

Present the Letter of Introduction to Szem Djenmai

Go south and check on the Exit to the Crystarium and say Yes to exit the Ocular. Go west down the stairs and use the Aethernet Shard to go to the Crystarium Aetheryte Plaza. Turn north and go into the tunnel, then turn left as soon as you have gone down the first set of stairs and you will be near an Aethernet Shard. Attune to it, then go to the quest icon on the map (the wooden gate in the fence will open automatically) and talk to Szem Djenmai. Hand over the Letter of Introduction.

Speak with the Aspiring Amaro Tamer

Go east to the Aethernet Shard. If you have already attuned to the Amaro Launch Aethernet Shard, go there and go to the quest icon on the map and talk to the Aspiring Amaro Trainer. There will be a cutscene.

Otherwise, one way to reach your destination is to use the Aethernet Shard to go to The Crystalline Mean if you attuned to it earlier, then go east to the staircase and go to the top, where you can attune to the Aethernet Shard southeast of the stairs, then go to the quest icon and talk to the Aspiring Amaro Trainer. There will be a cutscene.

Another way, if you did not attune to the Crystalline Mean Aethernet Shard either, is to use the Aethernet Shard to go to the Dossal Gate, then go north in the direction that the orange arrow is pointing, and go up the stairs that you find there. At the top, you can attune to the Aethernet Shard, then go to the quest icon and talk to the Aspiring Amaro Trainer. There will be a cutscene.

Or, if you have not attuned to any of the above Aethernet Shards, go to the Crystarium Aethernet Plaza, turn north and go up the curving staircase, then go counterclockwise until you can go north through the archway to the outside. Continue going north to reach an Aethernet Shard. Attune to it, then go east to the staircase and go to the top, where you can attune to the Aethernet Shard southeast of the stairs, then go to the quest icon and talk to the Aspiring Amaro Trainer. There will be a cutscene.

Speak with Szem Djenmai

Talk to Szem Djenmai to complete the quest. There will be a cutscene.

After you complete the quest, talk to Szem Djenmai to accept the next quest: A Still Tide.
