Death Unto Dawn - Quest Guide

This page explains how to complete the level 80 post-Shadwobringers Quest "Death Unto Dawn".

Requirements

This quest is available if you have completed the quest On Official Business.

Starting the Quest

Talk to Kan-E-Senna in Gridania to begin the quest. There will be a cutscene.

Speak with Alphinaud Outside the Carline Canopy

Go southeast and use the Exit to Nophica's Altar to leave the Lotus Stand. Use the Aethernet Shard to go to the Gridania Aetheryte Plaza, then go southeast to the quest icon on the map. Talk to Alphinaud to proceed. There will be a cutscene.

Speak with Alisaie

There will be a glow around Alisaie, indicating a solo duty. Check on her and there will be a cutscene, and then the duty will ensue.

Solo Duty: Death Unto Dawn

Part 1: Telophoroi

There will be some dialogue. When the battle begins, use single-target attacks on the enemies that have a red dot in the list of enemies, and ignore all other enemies. Continue to do so as more enemies appear.

Eventually, the enemies become untargetable. When Alphinaud and Estinien go southwest, follow them. There will be a cutscene.

Part 2: Telotek

Your hotbar/crossbar is replaced with a small number of actions. Use Verflare Combo to do a multi-target attack on the enemy. Use Scorch Combo to rush to the enemy, do several single-target attacks on the enemy, then jump backward away from the enemy and perform multi-target attacks. Use Crimson Savior to damage all enemies that are within the circular area near you. Use Fleche to do a single-target attack on the enemy. Use Contre Sixte to do a multi-target attack on the enemy. Use Vercure to heal yourself or an ally. Sort Pet Hotbar allows you to change the order of these actions.

Use Fleche, Contre Sixte, and the Scorch Combo whenever they are available. Otherwise, use Crimson Savior when there are more than three enemies (be sure to stand near the enemies to do damage with Crimson Savior) and use the Verflare Combo when there are three or fewer enemies. Use Vercure on G'raha and on yourself as needed.

Eventually, a Telotek Gamma appears. It will mark you and G'raha with circle attack markers that follow you, and at the same time will place circle attack markers around the edge. Stay in the middle but far away from G'raha to avoid overlapping him with your circle. A circle attack will appear around the boss. Wait for the edge circles to disappear, then move to where they were. Make sure not to use Scorch Combo if it will make you jump into an attack marker.

Ballistic Missile will place a proximity marker on you that follows you, as well as placing some circle attack markers in the area. Go as far away from G'raha as you can, then when the proximity marker has been placed, you can use the Scorch combo if it is at step 1. If not, run to G'raha's location.

After the Telotek Gamma dies, there will be some dialogue. Follow G'raha, and eventually, Angelo becomes targetable. Check on Angelo to proceed. There will be a cutscene.

Part 3: Lunar Odin

Your hotbar/crossbar is replaced with a small number of actions. Use Malefic III to do a single-target attack on the enemy. Use Lord of Crowns Combo to restore MP and do a single-target attack. Use The Scroll Combo to restore MP and temporarily increase everyone's damage dealt and everyone's attack speed. Use Benefic to heal yourself or an ally. Use Aspected Helios to heal yourself and all nearby allies, and apply a temporary HP regeneration status to them. Use Fixed Sign to create a shield around yourself that regenerates HP over time for those standing in it. Note that Fixed Sign will end if you move, turn to face a different direction, or use any other action. Sort Pet Hotbar allows you to change the order of these actions.

Throughout the battle, use the Lord of Crowns Combo and The Scroll Combo whenever they are available. Use Aspected Benefic whenever your allies' Regen status wears off. Otherwise, use Malefic III on enemies, and use Benefic as needed to heal yourself, your allies, and the Confluence.

When Y'shtola is trapped in Lunar Fetters, focus all attacks on the Lunar Fetters until they are gone. Then when there is a stack marker on Y'shtola, stack together with her to reduce the damage, and use Fixed Sign, but make sure not to move or turn to face a different direction or use another action until Fixed Sign has ended.

When large shrinking circles cover the area, go to the edge of the area and go between two circles to find a safe location.

When you and your allies are marked with circle attacks that follow you, spread apart to avoid overlapping your allies with the circles. This includes the Confluence in the middle of the area. At the same time, avoid standing on the line attacks that appear.

When Lunar Odin becomes untargetable and goes to a side of the area, watch for it to raise its sword. Don't be on the same side as the sword, but stand near the Confluence and use Fixed Sign to protect it, but make sure not to move or turn to face a different direction or use another action until Fixed Sign has ended.

When a stack marker appears on the Confluence, first destroy the Lunar Fetters that Thancred is trapped in. There is no need to use Fixed Sign this time, because Thancred will put up a shield.

Some of the previous attacks will repeat.

Eventually, Lunar Odin begins casting Ultimate Zantetsuken. At this point, just cast Malefic III on Lunar Odin until he is defeated. There will be a cutscene.

Part 4: Lunar Ravana

Your hotbar/crossbar is replaced with a small number of actions. Use Foul Combo to do single- and multi-target attacks on the enemy (make sure not to move until your cast bar is near the end). Use Allagan Blizzard IV to do a single-target attack on the enemy and restore 4000 MP (this spell does not require any MP to cast). Use Thunder IV to do a multi-target attack on the enemy and inflict damage-over-time status on them. Use Cure II to heal yourself or an ally. Use Medica II to heal yourself and all nearby allies, and apply a temporary HP regeneration status to them. Use Break to temporarily immobilize all enemies standing near you and prevent them from taking action. Sort Pet Hotbar allows you to change the order of these actions.

Throughout the battle, use Allagan Blizzard IV whenever your MP is too low to cast the spell that you wish to cast. Use Thunder IV whenever the enemy's damage-over-time status wears off. Use Medica II whenever you and Alisaie's HP regeneration status wears off. Otherwise, use the Foul Combo (make sure not to move until your cast bar is near the end).

Whenever butterflies appear and become targetable, use Break, then quickly defeat the butterflies by casting Thunder IV repeatedly.

Lunar Ravana will become untargetable and cast Bloody Fuller. You will be immobilized and take high damage. Use Medica II, then Cure II as needed to restore you and Alisaie's health.

Lunar Ravana will put directional shields around himself. Make sure to move to the same side that Alisaie is on before you attack. If you are on the wrong side, Ravana will hit you with Revengeance, which deals damage and knocks you back.

Lunar Ravana will repeatedly cast Atma Linga. Make sure to use Medica II to give yourself and Alisaie the HP regeneration status, and use Cure II if needed.

Lunar Nails will appear in the area and each will do + shaped attacks, followed by + shaped attacks that cover the initial safe areas. Stand in one of the initial safe areas, and after the first set of attacks, move diagonally into a space where they occurred.

Eventually, Lunar Ravana will jump up temporarily, and then will reappear and use Lunar Defensive, then will start casting The Rose of Hate. Glowing orbs will tether to Ravana. Use Break at this time. Use Foul Combo on the frozen Ravana's Will orbs, and keep using Break whenever it becomes available. Remember to use Allagan Blizzard IV whenever your MP are too low. Keep an eye on Alisaie's health during this phase and heal her as needed, and use Medica II whenever her HP regeneration status wears off.

After Alisaie breaks Lunar Ravana's defenses, heal her as needed, then use Thunder IV and Foul Combo on Lunar Ravana until it is defeated. There will be a cutscene.

Part 5: Lunar Ifrit

Radiant Plume covers the area with shrinking circle indicators. If there seem to be more than four circles, go to the center to avoid it. Otherwise, go to the edge to avoid it.

When Infernal Nails appear, focus on destroying the ones that Estinien and Alphinaud are NOT attacking. When the nails are all gone, resume attacks on Lunar Ifrit. Hellfire will do more damage if any nails are still present.

Lunar Ifrit will go to the edge and become untargetable, and will create copies of itself. Don't be in front of any of these copies. Stand with Alphinaud and Estinien, and follow them when they move.

Untargetable Lunar Nails will appear in the area and each will do + shaped attacks, followed by + shaped attacks that cover the intial safe areas. Stand in one of the initial safe areas, and after the first set of attacks, move diagonally into a space where they occurred.

Lunar Ifrit will sometimes cast Incinerate, an unmarked cone attack from the front of the boss. Keep Lunar Ifrit facing away from Estinien and Alphinaud to protect them from this attack.

When a large number of Infernal Nails appear, you do not need to do anything. Wait for Estinien to destroy the nails, then resume attacks on Lunar Ifrit.

When Lunar Ifrit casts Agony of the Damned, stand in the center to be protected by Alphinaud's shield, and do as much damage to Lunar Ifrit as you can. After it is defeated, there will be several cutscenes in sequence.
