The Tower of Babil - Dungeon Guide

This page explains how to complete the level 83 Endwalker dungeon, The Tower of Babil.

How to Unlock

The Tower of Babil, a 4-player dungeon, is unlocked by the level 83 Main Scenario Quest Gateway of the Gods.

Barnabas

When the boss casts Ground and Pound, it will turn to a random player and do a line attack in that direction. The attack marker is only briefly visible, so be sure to watch out for when the boss starts casting the Ground and Pound attack so you can avoid being in front of the boss before it finishes casting the attack. It will sometimes do this attack multiple times in a row.

The boss will move to the north side of the area and cast Dynamic Pound, which places a line marker down the center of the area. The line marker will either be orange and have a + symbol in it, or it will be blue and have a - symbol in it. All players will also have either an orange + marker over their heads or a blue - marker over their heads. Your goal is to avoid being moved into the line marker in the center, and also to avoid being moved into the damaging ring around the edge of the area. If your marker is the same as the line marker, you will be pushed away from it. If your marker is different, you will be pulled toward it. To avoid being moved into the line marker and avoid being moved into the damaging ring around the edge, stand near the line marker if your indicator is the same as the line marker, and stand far away from the line marker if your indicator is different from the line marker.

Shocking Force places a stack marker on a random player. The unmarked players should move into the stack marker to reduce the damage.

Dynamic Scrapline places a circle attack marker centered on the boss, and the boss will also have either orange + symbols spinning around it or blue - symbols spinning around it. All players will each have either an orange + marker over their heads or a blue - marker over their heads. As before, if your marker is the same as the line marker, you will be pushed away from it. If your marker is different, you will be pulled toward it. To avoid being moved into the circle attack marker around the boss and avoid being moved into the damaging ring around the edge, stand near the circle around the boss if your indicator is the same as the boss's, and stand far away from the circle around the boss if your indicator is different.

Thundercall places a circle attack marker centered on the boss, and four lighting orbs in the area. Each lightning orb will do a circle attack centered on itself. The orb circle attack markers will only appear briefly, so as soon as you see the orbs, position yourself halfway between a pair of orbs to avoid being in the orb circle attacks.

Lugae

Thermal Suppression damages all players.

Magitek Missile targets random players with circle attack markers.

Magitek Ray targets a random player with a line attack marker.

Downpour fills the area with water and inflicts players with Heavy and Breathless status. The Breathless count will keep increasing and eventually kill you. To survive, walk onto the green floor symbol that has a picture of a frog on it to be temporarily turned into a frog. You will lose the negative status effects. Make sure not to walk onto the green tile again or you will be turned back to normal and will be inflicted with the negative status effects again. The boss will cast Magitek Missile several times, targeting random players with circle attack markers, so you will need to keep hopping out of the way to avoid them. Eventually, the water will disappear from the area. You can either step on the frog tile to turn back to normal, or you can wait for the frog effect to disappear on its own.

Magitek Explosive places large spiky bombs in the area. Each one will do line attacks in a + shape originating from itself. To avoid the attack, make sure there is no bomb north or south or east or west of you. There will always be one side of the room with no bomb. Go there and find a row or column with no bomb in it.

Magitek Chakram places untargetable chakrams at the edges of the area. They will do line attacks that cover the entire area and have no safe zone. To avoid it, walk onto the purple tile that has a picture of a large person with an arrow pointing to a small person, and you will get the Minimum status. This will make you short enough not to get hit by the chakrams. Be sure to stay small, because another set of chakrams will appear soon after the first set attacks.

Anima

The boss will be in a fixed position throughout the battle. Attacks that normally do more damage when performed from a certain position will not have a damage bonus during this battle and can be performed from any direction.

Phase 1

Lunar Nail will make nails appear in the area. The nails mark the corners of square areas where square-shaped attacks, known as Phantom Pain, will soon occur. Look for a corner of the area that does not have a nail, and go to that quadrant of the area.

Mega-Graviton damages all players. It is followed by an orb appearing in each corner, as well as Pater Patriae, a line attack marker down the center. After a moment, each orb will tether to a random player. Wait for the line attack marker to disappear, then run as far away as possible from the orb that is tethered to you. The orb will pull you toward it. If you are far enough away, you will not be pulled into the orb.

Boundless Pain pulls all players into the center of the area, then creates a growing, continuous circle attack in the center of the area. Stay away from the circle attack and move to a corner of the area as soon as you can.

Imperatum stuns all players and transforms the area, signalling the beginning of the second phase.

Phase 2

Obliviating Claw creates circle attack markers on the east and west sides of the area, and a claw will appear where each circle attack occurred. These claws will eventually do line attacks in the direction where they are pointing. Look to see where the claws are, and stand in a location where there is no claw pointing at you. Then turn to face the other direction, because another set of claws will soon appear there. There will be a neighboring line with no claw, so keep in mind whether you should move north or south to avoid the second set of claws, and possition yourself accordingly after the first set of claws attacks.

The boss will then cast Obliviating Claw again, but this time, the attack targets two random players with circle indicators that follow them. Each marked player should go to an edge of the area, then when their circle indicator places a stationary circle marker, they should go toward the opposite edge of the area, because a series of circle attacks will occur along the path that they run. Other players should stay out of the path of the players who were marked with the following circle indicators.

Oblivion is a repeating attack that damages all players. The higher the Chaos gauge, the stronger this attack will be. If you survive this attack, you proceed to the third phase of the battle.

Phase 3

Erupting Pain targets all players with circle attack indicators that follow them. Players should spread away from each other to avoid overlapping other players with their circles.

The boss will sometimes target a random player with Pater Patriae, a line attack.

Otherwise, the boss will use the same attacks that were seen in phase 1.

Completing the Quest

Defeating the boss will complete one of the quest objectives for the Main Scenario Quest Gateway of the Gods.
