Mount Ordeals - Trial Guide

This page explains how to complete the level 90 post-Endwalker trial, Mount Ordeals.

How to Unlock

Mount Ordeals, an 8-player trial, is unlocked by the level 90 Main Scenario Quest Desires Untold.

Phase 1

Inferno damages all players.

The boss will raise his hand and turn half of the background into a fire area. This does not do damage.

Rings appear around the boss, with line indicators that go from the boss to the circles around the outer edge. You will also get a Penance status, and when it expires, you will get the Penitent's Shackles status, which will prevent you from moving. The boss then casts Ordeal of Purgation, and a line of flame will move outward from the boss to one of the circle indicators around the edge. There will be a cone attack across the area that originates from the circle that the line of flame is pointing to. Players should avoid standing in front of the indicated circle and stay to the sides to avoid the cone attack. Remember that you will be unable to move when your Penance status expires, so be sure to quickly identify a safe area to stand in.

Shattering Heat is a high-damage attack on the player highest in the enmity list.

Arch Inferno places rotating circle attack markers at the edges of the area. The boss also creates an unsafe circle around himself. Players should stay near the edge (being careful not to fall off) and continue to move to avoid the moving circle attacks. Random players will be targeted with circle attack markers at this time. At the same time, the boss will cast Conflagration, a line attack across the area in the direction that the boss is facing.

Radial Flagration is a set of cone attacks from the center. Players should stand in the safe areas between the cones to avoid the attack.

The next time the boss turns half of the area to fire and places ring markers in the area, the middle ring will have a spinning indicator. The rotation will move each line segment one space in the indicated direction. The line of flame is moving outward from the boss, so players must identify which edge circle will be connected to the boss after the segments move over, because that circle will do the cone attack. As before, you will be unable to move when your Penance status runs out, so be sure to identify a safe area and go there as soon as possible.

Phase 2

The boss will become untargetable and will summon three Flamesent and a Greater Flamesent. The tanks should make sure to attack them to draw their enmity.

During this phase, the Rubicante's Power gauge will fill.

Ghastly Torch places many circle attack markers in random locations in the area.

Ghastly Wind is a cone attack.

One of the Flamesent will also cast Shattering Heat, a high-damage attack on the player highest in the enmity list.

Defeat these Flamesent quickly to minimize the Rubicante's Power gauge.

Eventually, Rubicante will cast Blazing Rapture. The strength of this attack depends on how much the Rubicante's Power gauge filled up.

Phase 3

Inferno targets all players with circle attack markers that follow them. All players should spread apart to avoid overlapping each other with their circles.

Flamerake places a spinning attack marker under the boss. Quickly move out of the way of the arrows when they stop, because the boss will do a line attack across the area in the direction that the arrows are pointing. This is immediately followed by line attacks that move outward from the first line attack, so as soon as the original line attack goes off, stand where the original line attack was.

Soulscald marks all players with a line attack marker pointing outward from the center that follows them. All players should spread apart to avoid overlapping each other. As soon as these line attacks go off, players should move into the spaces between where the line attacks occurred, because the first line attacks are immediately followed by line attacks in the same place. However, unlike the first set, these line attacks cover the entire area, making the safe areas smaller. Players can try to maximize the safe areas by spreading as far apart as possible and by making sure that their own line is pointing in the exact opposite direction of another player's, so that the line attacks that follow will overlap each other.

Dualfire targets both tanks with high-damage cone attacks. The tanks should spread apart to avoid overlapping each other with their cone attack markers, and all other players should stay out of the cone attack markers.

Sweeping Immolation places an attack marker on half of the area. At the same time, the boss will either target a random player with a stack marker, or target all players with circle attack markers. If there is a stack indicator, the marked player should move away from the half of the area that is marked with the attack marker, and other players should stack together with the marked player. If all players are targeted with circle attacks, they should move away from the half of the area that is marked with the attack marker, and all players should spread apart to avoid overlapping each other with their circles.

Completing the Quest

Defeating the boss will complete one of the quest objectives for the Main Scenario Quest Mount Ordeals.
