Hell on Rails - Trial Guide

Forged by the Kingdom of Lindblum as the war hurtled toward its inevitable conclusion, the Doomtrain is a masterful fusion of arcane life and cold steel.

How to Unlock

Hell on Rails, an 8-player trial, is unlocked by the level 100 Main Scenario Quest Where We Call Home.

Doomtrain

Be careful not to fall off the edge of the platform throughout the fight.

Lightning Burst is a high-damage attack on the two players highest in the enmity list. Other players should avoid the circle attack markers around the marked players.

When the boss casts Lightning Express, it will have circles floating in front of it. This attack will knock you back, away from the boss, so stay near the boss. In addition, the low circles will perform a line attack all the way across the platform, so stand underneath one of the high circles to avoid getting hit.

When the boss casts Windpipe, there will be a knockback marker on the platform. Stand on the edge that the knockback marker is coming from, because there will be an attack on the edge that you will be knocked toward.

Unlimited Express damages all players.

Turret Crossing creates turrets along the edges of the platform. Watch to see which turrets start to glow, then stand behind the wall to block the attacks from the glowing turrets.

As the battle continues, these turrets will continue to fire, so keep dodging the boss's attacks while also staying behind a wall to avoid the turret attacks.

During the Head on Emission attack, if the boss has lightning from its mouth and the text "energy crackles between the Doomtrain's jaws", use a teleporter to go to the higher level if you aren't there already, because the attack will hit the platform, or if the boss has a light from its head and the text "the Doomtrain's headlamp glows ominously", fall down to the lower level if you aren't there already, because the attack will hit the upper level.

Now when the boss casts Lightning Express, the circles in front of the boss will either make the upper or the lower level unsafe, so be sure to use the teleporters or fall down below as needed to avoid being in front of those circles.

Phase 2

Try to defeat the Aether in the center of the area as quickly as possible to minimize the build-up of the gauge.

The train that moves around the outer edge of the area will aim a cone attack at the area. Start by going to a safe spot between the cone attacks that are coming from the center of the area. These central cone attacks will go off first. Then move away from the cone attack coming from the train.

This phase will end with an attack that damages all players. The damage of this attack depends on how quickly you defeated the Aether.

Phase 3

When the boss casts Arcane Revelation, it will perform a circle attack on the platform, then the circle indicator will move around a diamond. The attack will go off when the boss closes its hands, so find a safe spot based on how soon the boss's hands will close.

Derailment Siege is a stack attack. Players should stack together at the indicated location to reduce the damage of the attack. This attack hits multiple times, so players should stay stacked together until the attack finishes.

When the boss casts Derail, go to the back of the platform and stand in the teleporter to move to a safe platform. The attacks will continue as before but the walls will be a different shape from the previous platform, so dodge carefully.

Battering Arms is a stack attack. Players should stack together at the indicated location to reduce the damage of the attack. This attack hits multiple times, so players should stay stacked together until the attack finishes.

Completing the Quest

Defeating the boss will complete one of the quest objectives for the Main Scenario Quest Where We Call Home.
