New Features in Version 2.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons

A list of new features in Animal Crossing 2.0, which was released on November 3, 2021.

Overview

The last major free content update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Version 2.0, was released on November 3, 2021. See the Nintendo.com article about the 2.0 update. For instructions on how to update your game, please read Nintendo.com's support page on How to Update Software.

Brewster's Café

After you update your game, the next time you talk to Blathers in the museum, he will give you a photograph of Brewster. The next time you go on a Boat Tour (see below), you will find Brewster walking around on the island. Talk to him and he will give you a gyroid fragment, which you can plant and water, then dig up the next day to get a gyroid.

After you have talked to Brewster, go back to your island and talk to Blathers in the museum. He will close the museum for construction the following day, and The Roost Café will open the day after that.

Kapp'n's Boat Tours

You can go on a boat tour once a day. It costs 1000 Nook Miles to go on the tour. Kapp'n can be found on the pier on your island. While on the boat tour islands, you can talk to Kapp'n to buy tools.

There is a chance of finding a buried gyroid fragment on boat tour islands. There is also a chance that one of the rocks on the boat tour island will be a money rock. You can also find shrubs there, which you can dig up and take back to your island.

Gyroids

Gyroid fragments can be found on the islands that you can visit with Kapp'n's boat tours. Bury them and water them, and dig them up the next day to get a gyroid. See the Gyroids page for a list of gyroids.

Harv's Island Market

The next time you visit Harv's Island, there is a new marketplace area behind his house. Go there and Harv will explain that he is accepting donations to open new co-ops in the area. Talk to the Lloids in the area to donate. Each co-op costs 100000 bells to open. When you have donated the full amount for a co-op, you can't donate again until tomorrow. Once a co-op is fully funded, it will open the next day.

New Hairstyles from Harriet

After you unlock your first co-op at Harv's Island Market, you can talk to Harriet to get a random new hairstyle, exclusive to Harriet. After she changes your hairstyle, you can switch to that hairstyle again any time from a vanity or mirror.

Cooking

You can now learn how to cook. Use the Nook Stop machine in Resident Services to update your DIY app with "Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+". It costs 2000 Nook Miles.

Cooking can be done by using kitchen furniture.

Learning Recipes

You can learn new recipes in a variety of ways, such as by purchasing the basic recipes from Nook's Cranny (purchase "Basic Cooking Recipes" for 4980 bells ), and by harvesting produce, and by catching fish. For a full list of recipes, see the List of Recipes page.

Planting Produce

Leif will now sell produce starts. You can plant these starts on your island. They will grow whether you water them or not, but watering them will make them grow more crops.

To unlock Leif's shop, you will need to go to Harv's Island and donate 100,000 bells to one of the middle Lloids in the back row. After you unlock Leif's co-op shop on Harv's island, Leif may also sometimes visit your island.

After you harvest the vegetables and grains from the produce starts that you bought from Leif, you can use the ingredients for cooking.

Permanent Ladders

You can buy the "Ladder Set-Up Kit" recipe in Nook's Cranny for 2000 bells. This allows you to install permanent ladders against cliffs on your island.

Group Stretching Exercises

You can use the tape deck in front of the Resident Services Building to do group stretching exercises with your island residents. You can use motion controls or button-only controls.

Ordinances

Go to Resident Services and talk to Isabelle, then choose the "review island features" option to enact or dismiss ordinances. It costs 20000 bells to enact an ordinance. After setting an ordinance, it goes into effect the following day.

The available ordinances are: Beautiful Island (fewer weeds, flowers automatically watered, less trash caught when fishing), Early Bird (residents get up earlier, shops open earlier), Night Owl (residents stay up later, shops are open later), and Bell Boom (items cost more, but are worth more when selling).

Home Storage Expansion

Go to Resident Services and talk to Tom Nook, then choose the "about my home" option to expand your home storage.

ABD Furniture Item

If you have paid off all of your home loans, you can redeem Nook Miles at the Nook Stop in the Resident Services building to get an ABD that you can place in your home or on your island. You can use it to deposit or withdraw bells.

Storage Shed Furniture Items

If you have expanded your home storage, you can redeem Nook Miles at the Nook Stop in the Resident Services building to get a Storage Shed that you can place in your home or on your island. You can use it to access your home storage. There is also a DIY for a wooden storage shed.

Reduced Fees for Relocating and Changing the Exterior of your Home

The fees for relocating your home and changing your home exterior have been reduced.

Neighbor Visits

In Your Home

When you are in your home, your island neighbors may come to visit you. You can't redecorate while they visit. If you talk to them, they may give you fruit or clothing, and may ask you to play High Card, Low Card with them to win items. You can go to each room of your house and they will follow you. You can interact with items in your house, and your guest may comment on them. After a while, they will ask if they should wrap up their visit and go home. You can choose to ask them to stay longer, or say bye-bye to have them head home.

In a Neighbor's Home

Villagers may come up to you and invite you to visit them in their homes. If you visit them, you can talk to them to play High Card, Low Card to win prizes, and can check on their furniture to get the option to purchase a furniture item from their house. When you leave, they may give you a copy of the song that is playing in their house. If they have a closet, you can check on it to see which clothing they have.
