Beginning the Game

This page explains the steps to begin a new game of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

When you start the game, you can choose from different looks and hairstyles.

Choose a Language

When you first start the game, you are asked to choose your language. You won't be able to change this after you start the game!

Choose your Look

You are shown pictures of different looks. Choose the one that you prefer for your character.

Enter your Name

Next, enter your name. It can be up to 12 characters long. You won't be able to change this after you start the game!

Optional: Change Hairstyle

You will be shown your choices, and you have the option to change your hairstyle and hair color before you begin. Press left or right to switch between the list of hairstyles and the list of hair colors. Press the + button to confirm your hairstyle choices.

Confirm Your Choices

If you are happy with your choices, choose "Ready!" to begin the game. Press A and there will be a cutscene. After that, it's time to Get Ready for School.
