Forbidden Woods

After defeating the ChuChus on the Deku Tree, you go into the Forbidden Forest dungeon.

After defeating the ChuChus on the Deku Tree, you go into the Forbidden Forest dungeon.

Get the Map

First, go around the room defeating the green chuchus. Then go up the ramp to the right and get the map. Next, get the nut on the left side of the room and throw it at the plant on the door to defeat it. Don't walk too close to the plant or you will make it close up. Go through the door.

Get the Compass

There is a knight's crest in a chest on the ground floor of this room, but when you glide in this room, don't get too close to the spiky vines or they will hit you. With that in mind, fall down and then glide when you are close to the ground, and defeat the monsters around you. Go up to the chest to defeat the chuchus around it. When you defeat the boko baba and get the stick, use the torch to light it, then light the plant on top of the chest to gain access to it.

If you see any piles of leaves around, you can use your deku leaf to blow them away, which sometimes reveals an item.

Get into the Baba Bud in this area, then turn east and jump into the next one, then turn west. When you're launched up above, glide to the next Baba Bud. This time, glide northeast when the Baba Bud launches you, and land on top of the tree stump house where you opened the chest. From this Baba Bud, go southeast into the next one, but beware of the spiky vines. Then turn west and glide to the next Baba Bud. Use that Baba Bud to glide northeast and onto the platform that has a plant on the door.

In the grass, there is a bomb flower surrounded by Chuchus. Lure them away so you don't hit the bomb with your sword, then defeat the Chuchus, and press R to set the bomb down in front of the door plant to defeat it. Go through.

Use your leaf on the weather vane to your left to bring the hanging platform to you. Jump on, then blow a gust of wind behind you so the platform moves the other way. Go through the door.

Use your grappling hook on the peahats to get Golden Feathers, then blow a gust of wind with the Deku Leaf to knock them down, then defeat them with your sword. Then defeat the Boko Babas. One of them will turn into a Baba Bud that you can jump into. Use the Baba Buds to get up higher, then use the weather vane to bring the platform over. Get onto it, blow a gust of wind behind you, and at the other side, cut through the planks to get the nut. Press R to place it on the far edge of the hanging platform, then stand at the edge nearest the ledge, and blow a gust of wind toward where the planks were. Be careful not to blow the nut off of the platform. Also, don't take too long, because if you do, the nut will eventually crumble and you will have to get a new one. When you reach the other side, throw the nut at the door plant and go through.

There are spiky vines that will shoot up around the center of the floor, so don't get too close to the nut. Use the Deku Leaf to blow the nut out from behind those spiky vines. Pick it up, throw it at the door plant to defeat it, and go through.

Go to the right, use the grappling hook to go across, and wait for the moving platforms. Jump along them until you're on the ledge with the locked door. If you fall below, there are Baba Buds that you can use to get back up. From the ledge with the locked door, collect the rupees in the hanging tree stump if you wish, then get the nut from the ledge, jump onto the hanging stump, go counterclockwise around the edge, and use the nut on the door at the next ledge.

Go straight ahead and jump down into the pit that you find. When the morths (spiky creatures) jump onto you, use your spin attack to defeat them. Sometimes the spin attack will only make them fall off, so you may have to try repeatedly. If they are cornered, just hit them with your sword. Open the chest to get 10 Rupees, then go up the ledges, jump over the pit, and go to the next room.

Go very slowly in this next room, because there are spiky vines that come out of the floor everywhere here. First make your way left, and use a bomb flower on the nearby planks. Go through where the planks were and open the chest to get the Compass.

Get a Key

Then get another bomb flower and throw it past those vines so that you bomb the other set of planks. It might take a few tries. When that is done, go back toward the door but don't go through. Go past it and continue making your way slowly through the maze of hidden vines until you reach the chest that was behind the planks. Open it to get a key. Then use the Baba Buds to glide back to the door where you entered the room. Go through.

Reach the Miniboss

There are new enemies in this room: Morths near the door, and Chuchus across the gap. Defeat them and make your way to the room with the hanging stump. Go clockwise around the edge of the stump to reach the locked door, and go through.

Use the Grappling Hook to get a Golden Feather from the Peahat, then use the Deku Leaf on it to knock it down. Use the Deku Leaf on the weather vane to your right. Then jump onto the hanging platform and use the Deku Leaf toward the door that you came in through, to reach the other side. Go through the door.

Defeat the monsters here, then use a Baba Bud to go up onto the tree branches, then use a Baba Bud up here to go to the upper level. There are two doors, but one is blocked. Go through the non-blocked one.

Flying Mothula

Nintendo Gallery Note: Don't worry about taking a picture of the Flying Mothula right now. It will be easier to wait and take a picture of a wingless Mothula later. You'll get the same figurine for it.

Try to stay far away from the Flying Mothula, because it will try to charge at you. If it does charge at you, the A button might light up, so you can try to press it quickly to do a Parry attack. Or you can make it fall by using the Deku Leaf on it, then try to do jump attacks to hit it as it floats downward. Use the spin attack to get rid of any Morths stuck to you. Hit the Mothula with your sword until it is defeated.

Receive the Boomerang

Open the chest in this room to get the boomerang. You will use it frequently. If you're using a GameCube controller, it is recommended to assign it to the Z button to leave your thumb free to swing your sword. The boomerang is effective on almost all enemies. You can target five things at once by putting the red cursor over each thing that you want to target. The bommerang will hit each target in the order that you targeted it. Keep in mind that you can only target multiple things if you aren't locked onto anything, so don't hold the L button (or ZL on the Switch 2 GameCube version) if you want to target multiple things.

Get a Treasure Chart

The door is blocked, but you can open it by using the boomerang on the two white switches above the door. Target both at the same time. Then go through the door.

Use the Grappling Hook on the Peahats to get Golden Feathers, then use the boomerang on them to remove their wings. Defeat them with your sword. Then turn right from the door and use the Grappling Hook, and look up to find a pole that you can swing from. Use the Grappling Hook on it, then hold R and climb up the rope. Then use the Grappling Hook on the next pole, and this time, hold R to stop swinging, then press A to drop down onto the platform. Then jump across the moving platforms to reach the chest. It contains a Joy Pendant.

Jump southwest and glide straight down to reach the door that is blocked by two plants. Use the Boomerang to target both plants and defeat them at the same time, then go through the door.

Use the boomerang on all of the vines here, then use the Deku Leaf to glide to the other side. The chest contains a joy pendant. Go through the door.

Use your boomerang to cut down all five blue vines at once. The flower will fall through the floor below and down to a lower level. Fall and glide all the way down until you're standing on that flower. Go through the door.

Defeat the monsters in here. You can use your boomerang to defeat the morths. Go right at the fork. The blue vines will keep growing no matter how often you cut them down, so just get away from them and go through the door.

Jump across the flower and open the chest to get 10 rupees. Then use the boomerang to cut all the vines, then jump down to the flower that fell. Turn around and use your shield to defeat the octorok, then jump to the platform with the Bomb Flower. Pick it up and jump onto the flower with it, and throw it at the planks. Go through the door past where the planks were.

Tingle Tuner Note: Use your Tingle Tuner (unavailable on Switch 2 GameCube version) to find a question mark to the right of the door that you just came through. Use a Tingle Bomb on it to get a Tingle Statue. If you are playing The Wind Waker HD on Wii U, you can use a regular bomb on this spot.

Use the Grappling Hook on the Peahats, then the Boomerang, then defeat them with your sword. Use the Deku Leaf on the pile of leaves on the tree stump, then jump onto it and use the Boomerang on the Boko Baba. Jump to the middle platform that has bars blocking a room, and go around the back. Ignore the small tunnel for now, and use the Boomerang on the Morths on the nearby platform, then get close enough to the Boko Baba on the tree stump to make it come out, and use the Boomerang on it. It turns into a Baba Bud. Jump into it, and glide to the grassy ledge up above. Use the Deku Leaf on the wind switch, jump onto the hanging platform that appears, and use the Deku Leaf to make it go to the other side. Pick up the bomb flower, get onto the far edge of the hanging platform, and throw the bomb into the hole of the tree below. If you defeated the monster in the hole, there will be a brief cutscene. Jump down into that hole, open the chest to get treasure chart #15, and crawl out through the crawlspace to leave the little room. Then go around to the other side of the tree stump and go back through the door where you first entered this room.

Get the Big Key

Go forward to the edge of the ledge, then turn right and raise your shield to defeat the Octorok. Then walk back toward the opening in the planks and use your boomerang to cut down the flower that is hanging from the ceiling. Jump onto it, then turn left to face away from the watery tunnel, and use the Deku Leaf repeatedly to move the flower through that tunnel. When you get close to the curve in the tunnel, defeat the Octoroks. When you reach the ledge, climb up, defeat or ignore the Chuchus while avoiding the blue vines that reach toward you, and go through the door.

Go forward and walk up the ramp on the left side of the tree stump. When you reach the top, use the Boomerang to target the switch to the left of the tall tree, then go counterclockwise to target the rest. If you don't target them in that order, the Boomerang will be blocked by the tall tree. Open the chest down below to get the Big Key, then exit the tree stump, and defeat the Moblins that appear. You can use the Boomerang to stun them, but they can block the Boomerang if you use it too close to them. After they are gone, go back up the ramp to reach the top of the tree stump, then use the Grappling Hook to swing to the door up above.

Open a Chest that you Couldn't Reach Before

Cut the bushes, then fall down from the ledge, defeat the Chuchus and Morths, then go through the door on the right.

There is a weather vane to the left and a Baba Bud to the right. Use the Deku Leaf on the weather vane to create a cyclone over the flower, then jump into the Baba Bud and glide into the cyclone. Land on the upper level, then use the Boomerang to defeat both door plants at the same time, and go through the door.

Defeat the Mothulas and any Morths that they leave behind, then open the chest that appears, to get a Joy Pendant. Then when facing the chest, turn left, then go toward the door. Make sure that it is the door that has two small trees next to it and some round pieces of wood above it. Go through that door.

In this room, the pinecone near the warp jar has a fairy in it if you want to catch it in a bottle so it can revive you if you fall in battle, or just walk up to it now to replenish your health. Some of the other pinecones have enemies inside, and some have rupees, so feel free to try your luck. Break the jar near the door and pick up a stick, and use a torch to light it, then use it to burn the lid off of the warp jar. It is not yet time to fight the boss because there is a chest that you can access now that you couldn't get before. Jump into the warp jar.

Go up the ramp in this room and go through the door, then use the Baba Buds to go up as far as you can, but beware of the Boko Baba on the ledge near a branch with rupees on it. Land on that ledge and break the jar to get a Joy Pendant. Hit the nearby Boko Baba with the Boomerang, then get in the Baba Bud that it leaves behind, and glide all the way across the room to find a chest with a plant on top. Hit it with the Boomerang, then open the chest to get treasure chart #1. Make your way down to the door where you first entered the room, go through, turn left, and jump into the warp jar.

Nintendo Gallery Note: Now is a good time to save the game if you want to get the next enemy's picture. Technically, you will have another chance to take its picture later, but it is easier to get it now.

Go into the boss room.

Kalle Demos

To start the battle, walk up to Makar, who is standing in the middle of the plant.

Nintendo Gallery Note: You don't have to get a pictograph of this enemy now, but the next chance you get will be at a later point in the game when you will want to have many empty slots in your picto box, so it might be best to get the picture now if you have the Deluxe Picto Box. (If you don't have the Deluxe Picto Box, you can read How to Unlock the Nintendo Gallery for instructions.) To get a figurine made of Kalle Demos, you just need a picture of the big blue bulby part. You don't need to fit the whole thing in the picture. Just make sure that most of it is in there. Try to take the picture at the very beginning of the fight, before Kalle Demos starts attacking. Remember not to save until you have had the Kalle Demos figurine made, in case your picture isn't accepted.

Use your Boomerang to cut down all of the blue vines while avoiding the bigger vines that the flower uses to attack you. Run around the room until the attacking vines have popped up somewhere far behind you where they can't hit you when they flail around. Then use the Boomerang on the blue vines as quickly as you can. The vines grow back, so you have to be quick, but try not to be hasty. When you have cut all of the vines, the flower falls, exposing the monster's head. Run up to it and hit it with your sword repeatedly. The flower will close, so run away if you want to conserve your hearts. Repeat this strategy until the boss is defeated.

Forest Haven

After you defeat Kalle Demos, you receive Farore's Pearl.

Nintendo Gallery Note: After you receive Farore's Pearl, you have a good opportunity to take a picture of Makar, the violin-playing Korok, who will be to your right. You will still have other chances later, though.

Nintendo Gallery Note #2: At this time, you may also want to get a picture of the Deku Tree. First stand on the lilypad and speak to the Deku Tree, then stand on the middle of the lilypad and take a picture of as much of his face as you can fit in the frame.

Exit the Forest Haven. For a quick way out, jump into the running water to your left and let it carry you down to a small pool with two waterfalls in it. You can't drown in this pool. Swim to shore, then turn right at the boko baba.

Check to see if the postbox is wiggling, then approach your boat and he will talk to you.

Get your figurines made before you leave.

Great Sea

Now you're ready to go to the new place marked on your sea chart. Set the wind to NW if it isn't already, and set sail. Be sure to have your boomerang equipped, because you may be attacked while at sea, and the monsters in the ocean are vulnerable to the boomerang.

You don't have to avoid the swarming seagulls anymore, although it's best to wait until you have a better weapon. The swarming seagulls mean that a Big Octo is there, which you can defeat with the boomerang, but it's challenging.

On the way to the destination marked on your map, you can get new islands marked on your sea chart if you wish. It's not a straight line, but some of the islands you might pass on the way there are Private Oasis (don't get the treasure marked here yet unless your wallet is empty) and Southern Triangle Island.

The music begins to change as you get close to Greatfish Isle...
