Crown Dungeon

After rescuing the Goron Elder, Link can unlock the entrance to Crown Dungeon on Rolling Ridge.

Get the Dungeon Map

From the entrance, go through the north exit. Kill the Moblins to unlock the north door. Go through.

Hit the crystal switch and go through the southeast exit. Follow the straightforward path and you reach a room with a Beamos in the middle. Open the chest north of the Beamos to get the Dungeon Map.

Get a Key

Go back the way you came until you reach the crystal switch. Hit it, and the blocks to your left will go down. Stand to the left of where the blocks were, then use the Seed Shooter to activate the crystal switch. Exit west.

Get past the Beamos and the other enemies, and exit to the west.

Use the southeast exit and go to the west side of the room, then exit south. Down below, throw a bomb at the crystal switch to lower the blocks. Then walk up to the crystal switch and hit it again. Go east to the next room. You find three statues. You have to hit them with seeds to make them show an eye. To get all three to show an eye, stand where the L is in the diagram below, and shoot southwest:

  S L

S S

A chest will appear that contains a small key.

Get a Second Key

Go back to the previous room, go to the crystal switch and hit it. Then stand north of the blocks that went down, and use the Seed Shooter to hit the crystal switch. Go north, then go to the east side of the room, and exit north. Go to the left side of the room and go down the stairs. Open the chest to receive a small key.

Get the Cane of Somaria

Go north to the next room. Jump over the gap and go up the stairs. Exit south, then use the southeast exit. Go to the west side of the room and exit south. Use a bomb to activate the switch. Go north, then go north across the narrow path and use the north exit. Go up the short flight of stairs, go north past the raised blocks, then jump down from the ledge and exit east.

Keep going east until you reach a room with a crystal switch. Hit the switch and exit to the southeast. Follow the straightforward path until you find a locked door in the west wall. Unlock it and go through.

Ignore the floor switches for now, and go down the stairs.

Use the Seed Shooter on the rotating barriers to light the four torches in the corner and unlock the west door. Go through.

Step onto the switch to see a pattern. Then jump over the gap to the left and push the statues into the same pattern. If you make a mistake, just exit and try again. The steps to recreate the pattern are below, or you can just click below to see the pattern:

To recreate the pattern, push the middle-left statue to the right, then down twice. Push the upper-right statue left, then up. There is a statue northwest of the center tile. Push it down. There is a statue to the right of the center tile. Push it right, then up, then left. There is a statue south of the one that you just pushed. Push it up.

If done correctly, a chest appears. Open it to get the Cane of Somaria. This item creates a block that you can push around. If you create another block, the previous one disappears.

Get a Third Key

Go east and then go up the stairs. Push the statues onto three of the switches, then use the Cane of Somaria to create a block on the final switch. Push it onto the switch if you didn't create the block right on top of the switch. Open the chest to get a key.

Get a Fourth Key

Go east, then north. Go up the short flight of stairs, then jump down from the ledge and go down the stairs. Get past the Beamos and lift the pots to reach the stairs on the left side of the room.

Down here, go to the right and use the Cane of Somaria to create a block that you can jump onto to reach the other side. Go east. Create another block in this room to reach the ladder on the right side. Go up.

There is a crystal switch to the north. Hit it with the Seed Shooter, then go east and use the Seed Shooter to hit the crystal switch again. Go north.

The statues move in unison, but you must put them onto the two red tiles. Use the Cane of Somaria to create a block that prevents one of the statues from moving. When they are both on a tile, a chest appears. Open it to get a key.

Get a Fifth Key

Go south and hit the crystal switch, but before you go down the stairs, hit the crystal switch again to raise the blocks to the right of the stairs. Then go down the stairs. Go to the left, and go up the ladder on the left side. Get past the Beamos and go up the stairs on the right. If you are trapped by blocks, you will have to go back the way you came and hit the crystal switch.

Go north and then west until you reach the crystal switch. Hit it, then go east, and go down the stairs. There are columns of tiles on the left side of the room. Stand on the upper-right tile and hit the crystal switch, then walk left to land on the center tile, hit the crystal switch, then hop down to the left. Exit west.

Get past the Ball and Chain Soldier and the Like Like and go down the stairs in the northwest corner.

Hop over the platforms on the right and go up the ladder. There is an invisible path in this dark room that allows you to reach the chest in the center of the room. Before you try to find the path, you might want to use a Scent Seed to make the Moblins fall into the pit. You can find the path by creating a block with the Cane of Somaria and pushing it, like so: start by creating a block to the right of the bottom-right tile near the stairs. Push the block to the right until it disappears, indicating that there is no path on the spot where it disappeared. Create a new block below you. Push it south until it disappears. Continue creating new blocks and pushing them around until you find the path to the treasure chest. Beware of dead ends. You can hit the block with your sword to get rid of it if it is in the way. Open the chest to get a small key. Then walk one tile to the left and use the Switch Hook on the stone diamond to go back to the stairs. Go down, then hop across the platforms to get to the ladder on the other side.

Reach the Mini-Boss

Go east. As before, stand on the tile near the crystal switch and go to the right while hitting the switch until you're past the barrier. Go up the stairs. If your path is blocked, go back down and hit the crystal switch, then go back up the stairs.

Go east until you reach a room with two big gaps in the floor. Use a Pegasus Seed to hop over these gaps. Unlock the door on the right side and go through.

Smasher

Smasher will try to throw a ball at you. Avoid letting the ball hit you. Pick up the ball with the Power Bracelet and throw it back at Smasher. If you wait too long, the ball will disappear and reappear in a random spot. Pegasus Seeds can help you reach Smasher more quickly while carrying the ball.

Get the Compass

After you defeat Smasher, go north.

Use the Cane of Somaria to create a block on the switch next to the bridge. Cross the bridge. Use the Switch Hook to reach the chest, which contains the Compass.

Get the Boss Key

Go north up the short flight of stairs, then go down the stairs to the left.

Jump across the moving platforms and go down the ladder on the right side of the east room.

Go to the north side of the room and go up the stairs.

If the blocks on the left side of the room are raised, hit the crystal switch to lower them. Then stand on the tiles where the blocks were, and use the Seed Shooter to hit the crystal switch. You will now be standing on the raised blocks. Stay on the raised blocks and go west, then exit to the south. Push on the key block to open it, then exit north, then west.

Use the key on the key block and hit the crystal switch to raise the blocks south of you. Go to the southeast part of the room, where there is a ledge. Jump north from the ledge to land on the raised blocks. Stay on the raised blocks and go east, then go east until you can jump north onto the area of lowered blocks. Then exit north. Get past the Beamos and go to the northeast part of the room. Go down the stairs.

Use the Switch Hook or any other long-range item to activate the crystal switch. This will lower the outer ring of blocks on the left Stand on that ring of tiles and hit the crystal switch again to activate it. Then throw a bomb at the switch and hop down to the left before it explodes. There should now be three raised blocks next to the short flight of stairs. (If not, try the steps in this paragraph again.) Go west through the locked door.

Jump down from the ledge and open the chest to receive 50 rupees. Then go east to the previous room, stand just north or just south of the short flight of stairs, and jump east to land on the raised blocks. Use the Switch Hook to hit the cyrstal switch, making sure that the three blocks next to the short flight of stairs have gone down. Then go west to the previous room.

Go northwest and go down the stairs. Use the Cane of Somaria to create a block to jump onto the upper ledge. Then go up the ladder on the right side of the room.

Jump south to the main part of the room. The owl statue says "bring all to me." The objective is to push all of the statues so that they surround the owl on the grey tiles. Statues of the same color all move in unison, so use the Cane of Somaria to create a block and prevent statues from moving when you don't want them to. The color pattern doesn't matter as long as all of the grey tiles around the owl are covered with statues. Once it's surrounded, go west and open the chest to get the Boss Key.

Reach the Boss Door

You can either save and quit to back to the dungeon entrance (skip to the next paragraph if you do so), or you can go the long way by following these instructions: Go back the way that you came, and in the room with the crystal switch, go northeast and up the stairs. In the room with the Beamos and stairs, go south. Go up the short flight of stairs and jump south onto the raised blocks. Exit to the south. Go northeast and then east, and go down the stairs north of the crystal switch. Go to the south side of the room and go up the stairs there. Go to the left, jumping over the moving platforms, and go up the ladder on the left. Then go west and jump down from the ledge, and go south. You will end up in Smasher's room. Use the warp point in the middle of Smasher's room to go back to the entrance.

From the dungeon entrance, go north twice, then southeast (hit the crystal switch if the southeast path is blocked). Follow the path around the ledge until you can't go any farther south. Then go east until you reach the boss door. Go through it.

Smog

You must use the Cane of Somaria to make the small clouds collide with each other. The small clouds move along the walls of blocks. You can change their paths by using the Cane of Somaria to put a block in the way. The small cloud will go along the block that you created. You can use this strategy to move the small clouds to other walls or make the clouds collide with each other. You can hit the clouds with your sword to stop them for a moment.

The small clouds spit out blue blobs, but the blobs can't go past blocks, so you can hide behind blocks to avoid them. You can also destroy the blobs with your sword.

After you put all of the clouds together, Smog goes back to normal size. When Smog is back to normal size, hit it repeatedly with your sword. It will make the defeated sound after you hit it enough times, but the battle will continue for several rounds. Smog spits out lightning bolts at full size, so be careful.

Get the Essence

When you have defeated Smog, go north to receive the Sacred Soil. Outside, the Maku Tree will say that she senses another Essence on Rolling Ridge. A Goron will come by and say that you should play games on Rolling Ridge.
