How to Obtain Paint
Meet Smearguru
After you meet Kyogre in Withered Wasteland, go through the east area gate to reach Bleak Beach. There, you will meet Smearguru.
Find a Pokémon with the Crush Specialty
To obtain paint in Pokémon Pokopia, you must first find at least one Pokémon that has the Crush specialty. For example, if you talk to Smearguru, they will teach you the Tantalizing Restaurant habitat, where you can meet Pawmot. Or you can open the Pokédex and press Y to search for Pokémon that you have met who know the Crush specialty.
Give Berries to the Pokémon
Once you have found a Pokémon that has the Crush specialty, give them berries from your inventory to have that Pokémon create paint for you. See below for the list of paint you can get from different types of berries. Go back to that Pokémon after a while and they will give you your paint. Be sure to talk to Smearguru to show them the paint if you have been doing their requests.
Unlock Smearguru's Paint Ability
After you get a bowl of paint, talk to Smearguru to unlock their Paint ability. You can talk to Smearguru and show them something from your inventory to paint, or you can have Smearguru follow you to a house and ask them to paint it.
Craft Paint Balloons
Continue talking to Smearguru to learn how to make Paint Balloons. If you have at least one bowl of paint in your inventory, you can use a workbench to craft Paint Balloons. You can even combine multiple colors of paint to create balloons of new colors, such as orange, purple, and gray. Unlock Patterns
Craft and use a Paint Balloon, then talk to Smearguru to unlock their ability to add patterns to items that you ask them to paint for you.
Unlock Painting Multiple Parts of Objects
Talk to Smearguru and they will ask to see a fossil. Show them one, then keep talking to them to unlock their ability to paint multiple parts of items.
List of Paint from Berries
You can only get paint from berries. Whenever you pick up your paint from the Pokémon that you gave the berries to, there is a small chance of also getting black or white paint in addition to the color paint, depending on which type of berry you gave to the Pokémon. See below for the list of berries and the colors you can get from each berry.
