Maridia Continued: Get the Plasma Beam and Spring Ball

After you get the Space Jump, you can reach the Plasma Beam and Spring Ball upgrades in Maridia.

Get the Plasma Beam

Exit the room where you got the Space Jump, and use Space Jump to reach the upper-right part of the room. Go through the door there. Space Jump to the top of the room, then go through the upper-left door. Space Jump upward, and you can optionally use the save room and recharge room in the upper-right corner. Then exit the save room and Space Jump to the left through the room. Go through the door in the upper-left part of the room.

Go downward and go through the first door on the left, which is now flashing.

Space Jump to the left through this room, but remember that you can't Space Jump after you reach maximum falling speed, so be careful when going downward. Go through the door in the upper-left part of the room.

Go downward in this room while avoiding the spikes that the Cacatacs shoot out. Go through the door in the bottom-left part of the room, then go through the door to the left.

Go to the left until you can start Space Jumping upward. There is a door in the upper-right part of the room that is now flashing. Space Jump there, but be aware that it is harder to Space Jump after you go above the surface of the water, because you have a shorter amount of time to press the jump button before you reach the maximum falling speed. Go through the flashing door just below the upper-right part of the room.

Space Jump up through this room and go through the door at the top.

You can shoot the pile of Puyos in this room to get health and items. Then go through the door on the right.

Go down to the bottom-right part of the room while dodging the Space Pirates. Ignore them for now. In the bottom-right corner of the room, shoot the item that the Chozo Statue is holding and you will get the Plasma Beam. Note that you can't have Spazer and Plasma Beam equipped at the same time. You can press START and then R to go to the Status screen, where you can choose which beam to use.

You will need to kill all the Space Pirates in the room to unlock the exit. Use your newly obtained Plasma Beam to kill them. Space Jump back to the upper-left corner of the room and go through the door, then shoot the pile of Puyos, which you can now destroy in a single shot with your Plasma Beam. Go through the door to the left of the tunnel.

Go to the bottom of the room full of Choots and Puyos, then go through the bottom-left door.

Get the Right Quicksand Room Upgrades

Go to the bottom-right corner of this large room and go through the door, then in the small room with the quicksand, go through the door on the right. Go up past the Cacatacs and the needles that they shoot out, to reach the upper-right corner. Go through the door there, then Space Jump to the right through this room, past more Cacatacs, to go to the bottom-right of this room. Go through the door there, then go down to the bottom of this room with the Mochtroids and Grapple Blocks, and go through the door there.

Go to the left and stand on the brick that sticks out, then roll to the left through the tunnel, using a bomb to go up to the higher part of the tunnel (or Spring Ball if you have it already). Roll as far to the left as you can, then if you already got the Energy Tank from this room, you can just roll to the left. Otherwise, use a bomb to go up to the higher part again (or Spring Ball if you have it). Go left and fall down to the lower area, but don't roll to the left or you will fall through a hole and into the quicksand. Instead, use a bomb or Spring Ball to launch yourself upward again, and roll to the left to enter the higher part of the tunnel that leads to the Energy Tank on the left.

Roll to the left and let the quicksand pull you to the room below.

In the room where you end up, go to the left and go through the door there. Then go to the left until you fall down to the lower part of the area. From there, go to the right, and shoot the floor to open a hole in the pipes. Go down below. If you haven't gone into either of the two quicksand rooms next to the tube elevator, go to the left and let the quicksand pull you to the room below. Otherwise, if you have Spring Ball and haven't gotten the left quicksand room upgrades, skip ahead to "Get the Left Quicksand Room Upgrades".

Go downward to the next room, where you can go to the left and jump up the ledges to reach a Missile Tank.

Then go the right side of the falling sand and jump up the ledges, but beware of the boulders that can fall from above. Below and to the right you can see a block of sand that is separated from the rest. Roll into a ball and fall onto that block while moving toward the right to go through the tunnel as you pass it. Then go to the right and shoot through the block in the way, and take the Power Bomb tank.

Go back through the tunnel on the left and then fall onto the quicksand and go to the right side of it, where the quicksand will take you to the room below.

Get the Spring Ball

Go to the right through this room and go through the door on the right side, then use the Grappling Beam on the Grapple Block in the ceiling. When the ceiling block disappears, Space Jump up past where it was, and go to the top of the room, where small imp-like enemies called Menus will attack. At the top of the room, go to the right, then land on the floor below to fall through Pit Blocks. You will find a door on the right. Go through it.

Use a Power Bomb, but leave the Shaktool machine alone. You will need to wait for it to cut through the sand on the right. Only its wheels can harm you, so stand in front of its body as needed to let it go past. Go to the right, past where the machine cut through the sand, and go through the door there.

Roll into the tunnel beneath the block, then roll to the left until you reach the bottom of the room. Go to the right and use bombs to reach the platform with the Chozo Statue. Shoot the item that it is holding and take the Spring Ball. You can now jump while rolled into a ball by pressing the jump button.

After Spring Ball

Roll to the left and use Spring Ball to jump as a ball and go up through the tunnels. Go through the upper-left door.

Go to the left through this room and kill or ignore the Shaktool machine, then go through the door on the left.

Go to the left and you will fall through Pit Blocks. Go to the bottom of the room and go through the door on the left. In the room with the cracked Grapple Block in the ceiling, go through the door on the left.

Space Jump past the Evirs and falling sand in this room and go through the door on the left.

Get the Left Quicksand Room Upgrades

Now that you have the Spring Ball, you can get the upgrades from the left quicksand room. To do so, use a Power Bomb in this room and shoot the ceiling door with a Super Missile, then go up through the door to go to the top of the tube elevator. Then go to the "Get the Right Quicksand Room Upgrades" section of this page and follow the directions, but return to this section of the walkthrough when instructed to do so.

In the room where you shot the metal pipes in the floor, you can instead Speed Boost to the left to reach the quicksand to the left of the elevator. Let the quicksand pull you down below, then go downward through the room full of quicksand to reach the next room.

Jump up onto the ledge to the left of the falling sand, and shoot the block of sand that is separate from the rest, then jump to the top. Beware of the boulders that can fall from above, and go to the left until you see another block of sand separate from the rest. Stand near that block without standing directly on it, and shoot upward or diagonally upward to destroy the block above you. Then roll into a ball, avoid rolling directly onto the block to the left, and use Spring Ball to jump up past where you shot the block above you. There are no hidden Pit Blocks in the tunnels up above, so just use Spring Ball to roll to the Missile Tank and the item on the right, which is a Reserve Tank.

When you are done, go to the bottom of the room, stand in the left side of the quicksand, and let the quicksand pull you down to the room below.

Return to Norfair

Go to the left through several rooms until you reach the room with a broken glass tunnel. Roll into a ball and roll beneath the platform in the middle to fall down to the room below. Go through the door on the left, then go to the left through this room and shoot a Super Missile at the light on the gate. Go through it and fall down through the hole on the left side of the room. Then go through the door on the right. Don't go down the elevator yet. Instead, shoot the wall on the right with a Super Missile and roll through the opening, then jump up to the right to go through the statue's mouth, then open the door on the right.

Shoot the floor under the door and fall down through it, then drop a bomb next to the wall to the right of the door down below. Roll to the right through the tunnel, then go up through the door in the ceiling.

Go to the right side of the room and use a Power Bomb to open a tunnel in the wall. Now that you have Spring Ball, you can jump up into the tunnel, roll to the right and drop a bomb if needed, and take the Missile Tank. You will fall through Pit Blocks after.

Go back to the left side of the room and go through the door in the floor, then roll through the tunnel on the left, use a bomb at the end to get out, and go upward through the room. Shoot the ceiling below the door, then go through the door. Go to the ledge on the left and shoot a Super Missile at the left wall, roll through the opening, and go down the elevator to return to Norfair.
