Relationships

This page explains how to increase your relationships with characters in town, including the eligible bachelors and bachelorettes.

Overview

As with previous Harvest Moon games, there are eligible bachelors and bachelorettes in town, and if you befriend them, you can eventually marry them. If you chose to play a girl character, you can marry a guy, and if you chose to play a boy character, you can marry a girl.

Same-sex marriages are not possible in this game, but you can give your character any appearance that you wish.

To get married, to one of the eligible bachelors or bachelorettes, you first need to build friendship with that person. See the friendship page for more information about increasing friendship.

Once your relationship is strong enough, you can confess your love by giving the person a Ring. The Ring pattern comes with the Sewing Studio. If your ring is accepted, you and the person will start dating.

After building your relationship with your girlfriend or boyfriend even more, and after you upgrade your house and get a double bed, you can propose marriage by giving your boyfriend or girlfriend a blue feather. It is also possible that the character you are dating will propose to you instead (reverse proposal). See below for more details about reverse proposals.

If you are dating a character but you decide that you would rather pursue someone else, you will have to break up with the character you were dating, and you can only do that by reducing your relationship with him or her.

Bachelors

If you are playing a female character, she can marry one of the following male characters: Fritz, Mistel, Raeger, Klaus, Nadi, and Kamil.

Bachelorettes

If you are playing a male character, he can marry one of the following female characters: Elise, Lillie, Angela, Iris, Agate, and Licorice.

How to Build Friendship

You can improve your friendship with people by talking to them, giving them gifts that they like, wearing clothing and accessories that they like, participating in festivals, and more. For more information about how to increase friendship, read the Friendship page.

Flower Color

Each eligible bachelor/bachelorette (except Licorice and Kamil) will have a flower next to his or her name whenever you talk to him or her. The color of that flower indicates the status of your friendship. Here is what the flower colors mean:

  • Grey/White Flower: 0 to 9999 Friendship Points
  • Purple Flower: 10000 to 19999 Friendship Points
  • Blue Flower: 20000 to 29999 Friendship Points
  • Green Flower: 30000 to 39999 Friendship Points
  • Yellow Flower: 40000 to 49999 Friendship Points
  • Pink Flower: 50000 to 59999 Friendship Points
  • Red Flower: 60000+ Friendship Points

Licorice and Kamil are the only marriage candidates who do not have a flower next to their names when you talk to them (unless you start dating them). You can still find out your friendship level with them. Just press L when you are near them. An animation will appear above their heads. Here is what each animation means:

  • Scribbled black lines: 0 to 9999 Friendship Points (same as Grey/White Flower)
  • Thought bubble: 10000 to 19999 Friendship Points (same as Purple Flower)
  • Curved line crossed with shorter lines: 20000 to 29999 Friendship Points (same as Blue Flower)
  • Vertical lines: 30000 to 39999 Friendship Points (same as Green Flower)
  • Music notes: 40000 to 49999 (same as Yellow Flower)
  • Sparkles: 50000 to 59999 (same as Pink Flower)
  • Hearts: 60000+ Friendship Points (same as Red Flower)

Flower Events

For all bachelors/bachelorettes except Elise, there will be cutscenes that are triggered when you have at least 5000 Friendship Points with the person (the flower will be white), then when the person has a purple flower, then (if you are dating) when the person has a yellow flower then (if you are dating) when the person has a pink flower.

For Elise, these flower events will only occur after you have seen the four cutscenes where she inspects your farm (the last one takes place in Winter of Year 2), and her flower events require higher flower colors. Her flower color will be blue for the first event, green for the second, and pink for the final two.

If you are dating someone, you can only see that person's flower events, and not any of the other bachelors'/bachelorettes', so don't start dating if you want to see all the events.

Start Dating by Giving a Ring

To start officially dating one of your love interests, you have to have seen the first two flower events for that person, and you need to have at least a blue flower with that person (in other words, that person's flower can be any color except purple and white).

Then you have to give that person a Ring. To get the ring, you have to build the Sewing Studio (the Silk Country sells the blueprint), then use Silver and Fluorite to create the ring at the Accessory Bench.

After that, you can give the ring to your love interest. Find the person on a Saturday or Sunday when there are no festivals and it is not raining, and give the ring as a gift.

Alternatively, you can trigger a reverse ring exchange if you have the ring in your bag and you have given the person at least 100 gifts and you have 25000 or more Friendship Points with that person. For Raeger, this only works if he is in the restaurant, not in his room. The person will use your Ring to start dating you.

As long as you met all the requirements, the person will start dating you, and you can choose a nickname for that person to call you. There will now be a white flower bud next to the person's flower.

Breaking Up and Making Up

To break up with your girlfriend/boyfriend, reduce your friendship points to a purple or white flower, then don't talk to him or her for 31 days. Then go to his or her house to start a cutscene where you can decide whether or not to break up.

To get back together after a break up, increase the person's friendship points to a red flower (i.e. the highest level), give the person his or her favorite item at least 10 times, then after it has been 62 days, trigger the commitment ring scene as described above.

Getting Married

To get married, you first have to unlock Dessie by visiting all four rental fields to meet the Harvest Sprites. Then after you are dating somebody, Dessie will explain about marriage. After you have heard Dessie's explanation, you can buy the Blue Feather from the General Store.

You have to upgrade your house to the Big Farm House before you can get married, and you have to have a double bed.

Your boyfriend/girlfriend has to have a red flower level of friendship, and you have to have seen all four of his or her flower events.

If you meet all the requirements, you can give your boyfriend/girlfriend a Blue Feather to propose marriage on a Saturday or Sunday that isn't a festival day when it isn't raining. The person will accept the proposal if you meet all the requirements.

Reverse Proposal

Alternatively, you can trigger a reverse marriage proposal if you give the person's favorite item as a gift 30 times, and you have given the person at least 150 gifts. Have the Blue Feather in your bag, then go to the person's house between 6:00 and 23:00 (Raeger has to be in the restaurant, not in his room, for this to work). As soon as you walk in, your girlfriend/boyfriend will use your Blue Feather to propose to you.

You can reject this reverse proposal, but if you change your mind and want to get married after all, you have to give at least 200 gifts to him or her, and you have to wait at least 7 days before giving a Blue Feather again.

Having a Wedding

After the marriage proposal has been accepted, Veronica explains about wedding plans. When you are ready, talk to Veronica to choose your wedding plan. More expensive weddings increase friendship more (both with your spouse and with the people who attend the wedding), and you will have children sooner. Veronica decides when the wedding will take place.

If you choose The Simple Plan, it is a Western-style wedding with only Veronica in attendance.

If you choose The Deluxe Plan, you can choose a Western-style or Eastern-style wedding. Some villagers will attend the wedding, and you will receive gifts of flower pots.

If you choose The Luxury Plan, you can choose a Western-style or Eastern-style wedding. Many villagers will attend the wedding, and you will receive flower pots and flowerbeds as gifts.
