After you spend the night in Jubilife Village, you are ready to undertake the Galaxy Team's entry trial.
Choose Your Pokémon Partner
Professor Laventon will show you the three pokémon that you caught the day before. You can choose one of them to be your pokémon partner. Go up to the one that you want and press A when its name is displayed on the screen. You will be asked if you want that pokémon as your first partner. Say Yes if so, or say No if you want to choose a different one.
Afterward, you will get 20 Poké Balls. You can now access your Satchel by pressing up on the directional pad.
Go Outside Again
Go to the guidance marker and press A to go outside.
Go to the Gate
Turn left to see the guidance marker (press - to open the map if you have trouble finding it). There will be a cutscene where you will meet Volo.
Battle Volo
Ginkgo Guild Member Volo will challenge you to a battle. Volo has a level 5 Togepi. The controls are displayed in the bottom of the right. Press A to Fight, then choose your pokémon's move to use it. Repeat this until the battle ends.
Volo will heal up your pokémon and give you 5 Potions.
Talk to Ress
To leave the village, you need to talk to Ress, the guard. Go to the guidance marker and talk to Ress, then choose your destination on the map. It will be marked with a guidance marker. Say Yes to go to the Fieldlands Camp. There will be a cutscene.
Go to Rei or Akari
Go to the guidance marker to meet up with Rei or Akari. There will be a cutscene where you will learn how to focus on a wild pokémon. Hold down the ZL Button and you will stay focused on it if it doesn't get too far away.
Catch Bidoof
Approach the Bidoof until you see the focus ring around it, then hold ZL to stay focused on it. Then hold ZR to ready the Poké Ball, and let go of ZR to throw. After you catch Bidoof, there will be a cutscene.
Catch Starly
Go to the guidance marker and Rei or Akari will tell you about Starly. You will learn about crouching in grass to avoid scaring pokémon away. You can press B to crouch and press B again if you want to stand up.
Press B now and go into the nearby grass. Approach Starly, and when you are close enough, catch it. There will be a cutscene.
Catch Shinx
Go to the guidance marker and there will be a cutscene. You will learn that you can press X to ready your partner pokémon or press X to ready an item.
You can throw your partner pokémon's Poké Ball at the nearby tree to get some Oran Berries. Your partner pokémon will automatically go back into the Poké Ball after.
Go to the guidance marker and there will be a cutscene. You will learn that you need to hold ZL near a pokémon to find how how difficult or easy it is to catch. If the pokémon has an X above its head, you will need to throw your partner pokémon at it and battle it before you can catch it.
Hold ZL to focus on the Shinx, make sure to press X if you need to switch to your partner pokémon. Then hold ZR and release it to throw your partner's Poké Ball at the Shinx. Don't knock out the Shinx. Lower its HP, then press up to open your Satchel, choose a Poké Ball, and press A to use it.
After you catch the Shinx, there will be a cutscene.
Report to Captain Cyllene
Go to the guidance marker and press A to enter the building. Then go to the next guidance marker to approach Cyllene. There will be a cutscene.
Use the Mirror in Your Quarters
Go to the guidance marker and press A to go outside, then turn left and go to the guidance marker, and press A to enter your quarters. Go to the marker to reach the mirror, then press A to change your outfit. Press L and R to view the different categories of clothing (some are empty). Put on the Survey Corps Uniform and Survey Corps Sandals. You can also change your eye color if you wish.
When you are done, press B, then choose Yes to finish.
Once you have changed into your uniform, there will be a cutscene. Cyllene will give you an additional clothing item to wear.
Report to Commander Kamado
Your destination is upstairs, so go up the nearby stairs, then turn around and look for another set of stairs going up. Go up them, then go straight ahead to the guidance marker. There will be a cutscene, and your first mission will be completed.
You will receive a recipe for crafting Poké Balls, and 3000 Pokédollars, and Rei or Akari will give you a lesson on The Basics of Crafting.
