What You Need

Each player needs a Game Boy Advance. Trading between these games can ONLY be done with GBAs, NOT with Nintendo DSs. You also need a Game Boy Advance Link Cable (the GBA Wireless Adapter is NOT compatible with Ruby or Sapphire).

Please make sure that your cartridges are genuine Nintendo products! Counterfeit games might not be able to trade. In-Game Requirements

Before you can trade from Pokémon FireRed to Pokémon Ruby, you have to meet the following requirements in the game:

  • In Pok√©mon FireRed, you need to get the Pok√©dex from Professor Oak in Pallet Town, and you need to have at least two pok√©mon in your party.
You also need to talk to Celio in the One Island Pokémon Center and complete his quest. He asks you to find the Ruby and the Sapphire to complete the Network Machine.
If you want to trade pokémon that are not in the Regional Pokédex, or you are trading with Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald, you need to complete the main game (defeat the Elite Four) to obtain the National Pokédex.
  • In Pok√©mon Ruby, you need to get the Pok√©dex from Professor Birch in Littleroot Town, and you need to have at least two pok√©mon in your party.

How to Trade

Make sure to connect your GBAs with a Link Cable. (The GBA Wireless Adapter cannot be used to trade from Pokémon FireRed to Pokémon Ruby.)

Go to a Pokémon Center and go upstairs. Talk to the person in the middle. Say Yes when asked if you want to trade, then say Yes when asked to save the game, and say Yes when asked if it is OK to overwrite the previous save. Press A to confirm the next choices. Check on the computer in the middle of the room.

Now select the pokémon that you want to trade, and choose TRADE when prompted. You will see the pokémon that the other player wants to trade. Choose YES to start the trade.
