Here is how to start a game of EarthBound Beginnings. This page lists the characters' default names.

Start a New Game

From the title screen, press START to go to the game select screen. To start a new game, choose one of the empty slots, or choose Erase to erase an existing game if there is no empty slot. Then choose Start Up.

Name Your Characters

You will be prompted to name four characters and list your favorite food. For each thing, choose Back to delete the letter/number/symbol that you just entered. Choose Previous to go back to the previous person. Choose End to confirm the name when you are done entering it.

• Ninten: The boy in the red hat is officially named Ninten. (He is known as Ken in the official Mother novel, but more commonly referred to as Ninten in official materials).
• Ana: The girl is officially named Ana (sometimes spelled Anna in official materials).
• Lloyd: The boy in glasses is officially named Lloyd (sometimes spelled Loid or Roid in official materials).
• Teddy: The boy in sunglasses is officially named Teddy.

After naming the four characters and your favorite food, you will be asked if everything is correct. If so, choose Yes to start the game.

Some text will tell you the details about the story. Press A when you are finished reading each screen of text.

Afterward, you will start the game in your house.
