The Beginning: Aboda Village

Back to The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks walkthrough

You start the game in Aboda Village. After the opening sequence, you'll be in Niko's house. Alfonzo comes in to remind you that you're going to Hyrule Castle to get your Engineer Certificate from Princess Zelda herself! That's right: you're a train conductor!

Niko will give some lessons on the game controls. Now you can leave the house. Various people around the village will help you with controls. You get a red rupee if you clear the rocks in front of the girl's house. Knock down the beehive from the tree and then talk to the boy later, and he will give you a Wood Heart treasure.

Go up to the train tracks and Alfonzo will emerge on a train. Talk to him and you'll have five minutes to take your train to Hyrule Castle Town. Alfonzo will teach you as you go. The gears on the right side of the screen allow you to go full speed, half speed, stop, and reverse. If you're approaching an intersection, a track switch will appear at the bottom of the screen. The red track is the one that you will be taking, (or the one with the dotted orange line in the top screen) but you can use the track switch to change that.

In the top-right is your train whistle. You can use this to scare animals off of the track, and sometimes to scare away enemies.

The path to the castle is straightforward. Just blow the whistle to get the moinks (cow/pig-like creatures) off of the tracks. And be sure not to hit the other trains.

When you get to the station at Hyrule Castle Town, slow down the train before you get to the platform, and then stop the train in front of the platform. This takes a little getting used to, but it's pretty easy. If you're correctly positioned next to the platform, you'll enter Hyrule Castle Town. If you go too far, you can just go in reverse to position yourself correctly.
