EVE Online Soloing Guide

Going solo? Find out how to survive with this guide. This guide explains ways to avoid getting killed in EVE Online. This guide is mainly for solo pilots. Read the clone guide to find out what happens when you get killed in EVE Online.

The situation to be prepared for

If you want to avoid getting killed in EVE Online while flying solo, you must prepare for the worst. One of the worst situations that could happen is that you get caught by a group of very large ships who blow you away within moments and kill your pod before you can warp away.

It can be beneficial to have a large ship that can defend itself against such enemies, but if you are flying solo, even the biggest ship is not going to last long against several huge ships.

Watch your back

One way to try to stay safe when flying solo is to always warp away as soon as another player warps into the area where you're hanging out. Keep an eye on your overview to watch for other players warping in, and warp away if you are concerned that the player might be a threat. If you're really unlucky, the player will be faster than you, and will be able to target you quickly to warp scrample you or do something else bad.

Become better at escaping

Being able to escape when your ship is in danger of being destroyed is extremely important. In order to escape a difficult situation effectively, you must be able to warp away.

To optimize your ship for escaping, make sure your ship is as fast as possible at sub-warp speed. You can do this with an afterburner, microwarpdrive, rigs, and other things. Then, if you are alone and worried about enemy players warping in, align yourself with a distant object, like a planet. If you are in danger, warp to that planet. Aligning to the planet first will reduce the amount of time it takes your ship to prepare for warp, because it will not have to turn first.

To deal with the possibility of getting warp scrambled, being fast at sub-warp will increase your chance of escaping the targeting range of the enemy ship before it can successfully scramble you. There are also warp core stabilizers on the market that can reduce an enemy's chance of scrambling you, but these also have a big drawback: it takes much longer to lock onto targets when you have fitted a warp core stabilizer to your ship. This makes it so you can't do combat very effectively.

If you use a remote sensor dampener, it will take a longer time for enemies to get a lock on you. However, you need to be able to target the enemy for this to work, and the enemy might be doing some countermeasures to prevent you from locking onto him or her.

Using a stasis webifier on the enemy can make it easier for you to run away.

Using an Energy Neutralizer on your enemy can reduce his or her ability to use modules against you. Similarly, targeting jammers can prevent your enemy from locking onto you.
