When running missions for NPC agents in EVE Online, you have probably noticed that there are different types of agents in NPC corporations, like Distribution, Security, Personnel, and so on. This mission type guide explains the differences between those agent types.
If you take missions from a Command agent, you will probably get encounter missions most of the time. If you take missions from an Archives agent, you will probably get courier missions most of the time. Each agent type has a different breakdown of probabilities of offered mission types. Some agents give mostly encounter missions, while some give mostly courier missions. Some agents give about the same number of encounter missions as courier missions. A few agent types will also give you mining missions, where the primary objective is to return with some mined ore, and a few agent types will give you trade missions, where the primary objective is to bring back a quantity of trade goods.
The following table shows a more detailed breakdown of estimated mission type probabilities.

If you can, find an agent who gives the types of missions that you most enjoy. If you really cannot stand courier missions, but are into encounter missions, go for a Command agent or another type that is most likely to give encounter missions. If you do not enjoy combat, go for an Archives agent or another type that is unlikely to give you a large number of encounter missions.
Just be aware that if you are trying to boost your corporation standing, faction standing, or standing with an agent, encounter missions generally give the highest standing increases of all mission types, so s best to look for agents who will give you those types of missions most often.
