Poltergeist in the House

When you begin the game, a poltergeist makes furniture and toys attack Ninten.

Configure the Options

The game starts with Ninten in his room. Before you do anything else, you can press A to open the Command menu. Choose Setup and you can set some options. At the bottom is "Fight message speed". The fastest speed is 5 and the slowest is 1. Choose whichever speed works best for you.

Defeat the Lamp

Try to leave the room, and the lamp will attack you. Your options in battle are Fight, PSI, Goods, Check, Auto, Guard, and Run. PSI doesn't do anything right now, and you are not carrying Goods, so you have to just use Fight to defeat the lamp. You can choose Auto to make Ninten automatically fight. This is a good choice because there is nothing else that you can do in this battle! You can use Check to find out the enemy's Offense and Defense, as well as any PSI resistances it might have. Using Check will make you lose a turn, though. Guard will make you defend yourself, making you temporarily stronger against attacks, but you will not attack on that turn. You can choose Run to try to escape the battle, but sometimes you won't be able to run away.

Defeat the Doll

After you defeat the lamp, exit the room. You can go into the door on the right for an optional battle with another lamp. Then leave that room and go into the door on the left. Walk up to the doll to fight it.

After the battle, go to the doll and Check it. You will find a music box inside and will learn a melody.

Get the Basement Key

After this, talk to your sister to get some juice. You can get infinite juice from her, and from your other sister in the room to the right.

Now go downstairs and talk to your mother, who is standing in front of the door. The phone will ring, and she asks you to answer it, so go Talk to the phone.

Your father is on the phone. He says that there is something in the basement that might help, but he can't remember where he left the key.

After the conversation, your mother walks away from the door. You can call your father again to save the game.

Before you go outside, be sure to get Orange Juice from your sisters, but leave one space open in your inventory. You will not be able to get Orange Juice from your sisters after you go outside.

Go outside. If you talk to your dog, you discover that you can talk to animals. Your dog says to Check him out, so use Check on him. You will find the Basement Key. If you filled your inventory with Orange Juice, go into the menu and choose Goods, then choose one of the Orange Juices and choose Drop to get rid of it, or just Use or Eat it. Then get the Basement Key.

Get the Diary

Go back into your house. If you talk to your mother, she will cook your favorite food, and you will rest. This will refill your HP and PP. You can talk to your sister Minnie to put your items into storage.

For the next part, you will need three empty spaces in your inventory, so be sure to either store extra goods with Minnie, or just Drop or Use them.

Use the Basement Key on the door to the left of the telephone. When you go inside, you find a dark room. When you walk around in here, you might have random enemy encounters with Rats.

The gift closest to the door contains GGF's Diary (Great-Grandfather's Diary). Read it to learn a password: "the one who lost the tail. The forgotten one... the ship that sails."

The upper gift contains a Plastic Bat. Go into the Goods menu and Use it to equip it.

The gift on the left contains Bread. You can eat this to recover HP, or you can choose Use from the Goods menu, and you will start leaving bread crumbs in a trail. Then if you Use the Crumbs, you will be transported back to the place where you first created the Crumbs.

Go to Town

There is nothing left to do at your house for now, so you should go into town.
