Amazing things that you Did Not Know™ about Bug Squisher

Bug Squisher is a game that I created a very long time ago, originally as "Kill Mr. Smiley." The original game had a yellow smiley face that bounced around the grid, and clicking on Mr. Smiley would, as you might expect from the name, kill him.

Then, one day, Gary Apple of Stupid.com happened upon my game and decided to put it on his site, renamed as Bug Squisher, with a picture of a bug instead of Mr. Smiley.

I can't remember now how I discovered this. It was probably around 1997 or so, and the World Wide Web was smaller. I probably just discovered Stupid.com one day, and to my surprise, saw my Kill Mr. Smiley game in Bug Squisher form on the games page of the site.

I contacted Gary Apple about his use of my game. I can't remember if I was naïve enough at the time to be flattered and not annoyed at the uncredited use of my game, but either way, Mr. Apple offered to not only credit me but to let me have some free stupid stuff from his web site. I don't remember all of what I chose, but I'm pretty sure my choices included some Botan Rice Candy and a ViewMaster keychain.

Mr. Apple even asked me to make a Random Joke Server in exchange for more free stupid stuff, which I did. You can see my old Random Joke Server on Archive.org. I'm pretty sure that one of the free stupid rewards that I chose that time was a pooping cow keychain.
