What To Do When You're Bored

So, you're bored. This means that you want to do something, but you're not sure what. This also means that if someone suggests an activity to do, there are a lot of suggestions that you'll probably say "but I don't wanna" to.

Figure out why you are bored

Are you bored because there's an activity that you want to do right now but can't? If you can think of a good substitute activity, do that. But if not, then the only solution is to just face the fact that you can't do that activity right now, and you'll have to settle for something else in the meantime.

Think of something that will keep you busy

Ask yourself what you feel like doing. If you can think of some activity that would make you happy, and would occupy your time for a while, that's a good start. A good example is to watch a movie. If you have a fast Internet connection, you can download iTunes and rent or buy a movie. It's not too expensive, and it will keep you busy for a while, especially if it's a really long movie, or a long series. You could spend half a day watching the Lord of the Rings movies, for example. There are also sites like YouTube and Hulu that have plenty of things to watch for free.

Try thinking, or occupying your mind with something

If you don't actually feel like doing anything at all, then see if you don't mind just sitting around thinking about stuff. If that's too boring, then you need to do something that takes your mind off of your thoughts. Try searching online for a Flash game. Look around for a while to find one that's really relaxing to play. If a game just annoys you, then you'll just end up even more bored than before.

Try something new

One of the best ways to get rid of boredom is to do something unusual. Try to get creative and think of some activity that you don't normally do but that you have all the resources that you need for. Here are a few ideas. Find a web site that has juggling lessons and teach yourself to juggle. Find a web site that teaches you how to do origami, and make some origami. Find a web site with a recipe that you have all the ingredients for and that you wouldn't mind trying to cook.

Try a physical activity

If you're still bored, physical activities like walking, running, washing dishes, cleaning your room, dancing to music, and stuff like that can be good. Doing a physical activity takes your mind off of your thoughts and gets your body moving, which gets your circulation going, and that can help energize you and cure your boredom.
