About Me
- I like writing lists.
- I like binary determination puzzles, the likes of which can be found on Japanese puzzle web site Nikoli.com.
- I don't really like sudoku very much. I find it too difficult to master the advanced logic techniques required for the harder puzzles. And, anyway, it isn't even a Japanese puzzle; it was invented by an American named Howard Garns.
- I have written almost 100 limericks for The Omnificent English Dictionary in Limerick Form. When I joined the site I had very little experience writing limericks, but thanks to the other editors at the OEDILF (I pronounce it "oh-DILF"), my writing improved considerably. I haven't had the time lately to write new limericks, but I hope to return to the site and start making contributions again.
- I am a word nerd. I will look up a word in the dictionary that I already know, just to make sure I have the definition correct. For me, it is not enough to think I know what a word means, I have to know I know what a word means. I have to be able to explain the meaning of a word without checking references to be convinced that I truly understand the meaning of the word in question.
- I like bird watching. Even if I see a totally common bird that I see every single day, I love to watch it. Birds are cool. Some of my favorites are the Northern Mockingbird, the Great-tailed Grackle, American Crow, Mallard, feral Monk Parakeets, Mourning Doves and White-winged Doves, Canada Geese… and so on.
- I am a vegetarian. I basically never mention my vegetarianism unless I go to a restaurant with people. I always feel bad about it, because people often seem slightly annoyed if I mention that some restaurants might not have any vegetarian selections.
- I refuse to use curse words. Too many people swear like it's no big thing, but to me, it totally is. People seem to consider it acceptable to pepper their conversations with foul language, and I have even been given a hard time when it becomes clear that I do not do so. I care a lot about how I express myself, and, to me, cursing is a hallmark of very lazy, careless expression.
